Having had a long session of 10 months in poker I decided to take a break, lots of things were pointing towards this, I had sometime on my hands before I was off to university, I have always wanted to go to Australia, I felt a break from poker would probably be a gd thing etc, in this tie by the way pokerwit has been fantastic for keeping me going through poker strategy so as not to "lose " my current understanding of the game.

While I have been away I have been assessing my time in poker, I have managed to make approximately just under 26k in profits, around 18k of this from mtts, which I find most interesting and most exciting of the different games in poker, so I am definately planning to be grinding these on my return.

The questions I am asking myself and would love to hear any opinions on is how much I should start my bankroll on again when returning, as I have never deposited over 200 dollars it will feel like a big risk but my current opinion is something around 2-3k to allow me to play 10/20 dollar and 3 and 5 dollar rebuys.

I also play on a very standard 16" laptop, playing 9 tables at once I would suggest is the absolute limit, and I feel I would like to be able to at least expand this number slightly if I feel I need more volume. Would buying a 42" tv and wireless mouse and keyboard be advised for this? It would more then likely make me more profitable, or should I look at different options, like buying a computer rather then a laptop, or is it an unecessary expenditure at this time?

I am also looking to top players for staking/coaching propositions in 180 man turbos, I feel if i was able to really master this game it would be worth the money lost to the staker and be a good investment, this should allow me to build up to a 10k plus bankroll hopefully sooner then later.

Regarding setup, I'll share what I have:
I have 2 24" monitors. I tile and can fit 12 large screens with no overlap. For playing MTTs I'm not comfortable playing more than 12, usually I don't have more than 8 MTTs. I like having the relatively small number of games because it allows me to observe the table and get reads on players. I think that makes me more profitable and it's also more interesting/fun for me.

For SNGs and Turbos, I think the reads are much less important. But for those, I think that to play more table effectively, the way to go is to stack, not tile. I currently have no experience stacking, but plan on studying it soon (as I plan on putting some volume with SNGs to rebuild my bankroll). For stacking you don't really need more monitor space.

So to summarize, I'm really not sure how necessary and how much it will help you to get more monitor space.

Regarding bankroll:
I think that playing MTTs of $10 and the $3 $5 rebuys with a roll of 3k is pretty risky. I think normal variance can eat that sum fairly easily. If I were in your shoes I would first build that up to 10k in SNGs before messing with MTTs.

Regarding staking:
I have very little experience here, as I have never been staked - not have I ever staked anyone (other than buying a few shares of people here and there).
In my opinion you are probably better off not being staked. If you are going to grind SNGs, if you are a winning player and manage your bankroll appropriately - there is no reason you won't make a profit. Staking will just slow you down by having to share that profit.
Also, I think the commonly way of doing staking, of 50% split with makeup doesn't really make sense. With that method the person being staked is still risking getting into significant makeup (which effectively is like losing money). I think what makes sense is where the backer is buying shares of the person playing, and can effectively pay the entire buy-in for each tourney for X% of the person playing (so I'm proposing the staking will work such that there is no make-up and the backer gets back a fixed % of each cash of the stakee). That also avoids the whole issue of conflicts of interests when someone gets into a large make-up situation.
If you are getting significant coaching together with the staking than I guess it's significantly better and may make sense.
